JOHN HEAMS
John Heams is an installation/Video artist based in Maidstone. Having recently graduated from the University for the Creative Arts in Maidstone he is continuing his practice by looking to display work and collaborate with other artists in his field.
Over the past three years John has been defining a rigorous practice within his chosen field. Having worked comprehensively with both single screen digital video and 16mm film he has moved into installation to escape the constraints of video work. His work now is mainly in the field of sound with a heavy DIY electronic feel to the pieces. Concepts of drawing with sound and the capture of atmospheres and otherwise unheard sounds play a large part in his work and can been be seen clearly in works such as "Untitled (train tickets)", "The Drakes Exhibit" and "Trace".
Working with older and sometimes out of date technology has always been a passion of Johns, he enjoys the process of changing machines to his own purpose utilising ¼ inch audio tape, vinyl, oscilloscopes and discarded train tickets. While working mainly with these technologies he is also able to mix modern interfaces into his work making it accessible to a range of viewers.
On graduating from the University for the Creative Arts he has worked hard to show his work as much as possible while concentrating on strengthening his practice with further study and collaboration with other artists.
If you are interested in any of the work that is on this website, would like a full quality DVD portfolio or would like to suggest collaboration please do not hesitate to get in contact.
